Weixiao Gao

About Me

I am a postdoctoral researcher in the 3D Geoinformation group at TU Delft, where I also earned my PhD with a focus on the semantic understanding of urban scenes from textured meshes. I hold dual master’s degrees in Geoinformation Science from TU Berlin and CUHK. My expertise includes photogrammetry, geoinformation, computer vision, remote sensing, and computational geometry. My research focuses on improving the understanding of urban scenes through advanced 3D modeling and developing innovative applications for 3D spatial intelligence.

Research Interests

• Geoinformation: 3D data acquisition and integration, 3D city modeling, spatial analysis, and 3D geodatabases
• Photogrammetry: 3D reconstruction, textured mesh processing, and point cloud analysis
• Computer vision: 2D/3D semantic segmentation, interactive annotation, and object detection

• [July. 2024] Our paper Filling Holes in LoD2 Building Models has been awarded the Best Paper at 3D GeoInfo & EG-ICE 2024 in Vigo, Spain.
• [April. 2024] Two papers on building point cloud completion and filling LoD2 building holes have been accepted at 3DGeoInfo 2024.
• [Mar. 2024] I received the honor of being named the Top 30 Reviewers for the ISPRS Journal of Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing in 2023.
• [June 2023] Our work on roofline extraction has been accepted at 3DGeoInfo 2023.
• [Feb. 2023] Our paper PSSNet: Planarity-sensible Semantic Segmentation of Large-scale Urban Meshes has been accepted in the ISPRS Journal of Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing.
• [Oct. 2022] I won second prize in the CLGE Young Surveyors Contest for my work on SUM: A Benchmark Dataset of Semantic Urban Meshes.
• [Aug. 2022] I have been appointed as a researcher for the ‘Automated 3D Building Reconstruction from Aerial Photography’ project at TU Delft’s 3D Geoinformation group, in collaboration with 3DGI.
• [Aug. 2021] Our work on semantic urban mesh benchmarks has been accepted in the ISPRS Journal of Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing.
